Mugwort – Artemesia vulgaris

This potent herb has so many excellent health benefits. It first caught my attention for its dream-enhancing energetics and lucid dreaming abilities.

I love having mugwort and rose herbal tea before bed when fasting. I have been flying in dream time since as young as I can remember. Mugwort enhances this experience, and I am more alert in my lucid dreaming and able to influence the direction of my dream.

Mugwort is connected to psychic intuition and can activate the third eye chakra. Keeping a few leaves under your pillow can protect against negative energies and nightmares and attract good dreams.

Adaptogens are ancient herbs that help to restore balance and homeostasis in the body.

Mugwort is an adaptogen; it is a relaxant and stimulant. It revitalises the nervous system when depleted and relaxes it when over-stimulated, soothing stress, anxiety and tension.

The aromatic and pungent tastes are heating, and the bitter taste is cooling. The aromatic properties are more dominant; therefore, it has an overall warming effect, especially on the circulation, digestive system and uterus.

Mugwort is a bitter tonic and carminative; it cleanses the liver and gallbladder and supports the digestive system.

The airy nature of mugwort helps to mobilise stuck energy, increasing blood flow and circulation and balancing kapha. It relaxes excess tension in the body and mind and warms the cold nature of vata. In excess, it can lead to dryness. It decreases and balances vata and kapha and increases and aggravates pitta.

This magical herb honours the Goddess, especially Artemis, the Greek Goddess of the moon. Ruled by Venus, Mugwort is an emmenagogue, as are most Venus-ruled plants. Emmenagogues are herbs which stimulate blood flow in the uterus and pelvic area. Mugwort helps the uterus to relax, relieves cramps and encourages menstruation. It cleanses and clears emotional tension and trauma from the pelvis and reproductive region.

Contra-indications: Due to its stimulating effects on the uterus, pregnant women should avoid mugwort as it can potentially cause miscarriage.

Full Moon Ceremony

Mugwort is a powerful herb to use during your full moon ceremony, and is exceptionally good for Goddess rituals. The feminine energy of mugwort enhances creativity and inspiration.

Purify your sacred space by burning mugwort to cleanse and clear the energy. Prepare a womb cleansing bath with Epsom salts, mugwort and rose petals. (Men – connect with your divine feminine energy). Surround the tub with candles and play relaxing music. Drift into a dream-like state as you connect with the divine feminine and inner Goddess.

After your Goddess bath, meditate, reflect and journal.

Join us on Friday, 5th May, at 7 – 8.30pm UK time, live on Zoom.
