Biji mantras are one syllable sounds that activate and balance the chakras. By repeating the mantras, you resonate with that energy to awaken the superpowers of each chakra.

Biji Mantra: LAM

Sit in a comfortable seated position with your spine straight and body relaxed. Take a few deep breaths to ground and centre yourself.

Visualise a bright red ball of light at the base of the spine. Inhale deeply, then chant the biji mantra; LAAAAMMMMMM…….

Red foods energise the root chakra and balance the physical body.

Try to include plenty of red foods in your diet this week.

Red foods: Watermelon, strawberries, raspberries, red apples, red cherries, pomegranate, plums, red grapes, cranberries, rhubarb, red chard, red onion, tomato, red pepper, beetroot, red cabbage, radishes, red chilli peppers, red potatoes, red carrot, red kidney beans and red lentils.

Proteins and root vegetables are also good for grounding and strengthening the root chakra. Hibiscus tea and all red juices and smoothies are good too!

Crystals help to harmonise our internal energies and can aid in the balancing of each of our chakras.

Crystals: All red, black and brown crystals are good for balancing the root chakra. Examples include; red garnet, ruby, rhodochrosite, red calcite, coral, smoky quartz, onyx and black tourmaline.

Aromatherapy assists the body’s natural ability to heal.

Aromatherapy: All earthy, woody scents are good for balancing the root chakra. Examples include; vetiver, cedarwood, douglas fir and black spruce.

Yoga is a fun way to balance the chakras. Practice barefoot on the grass for extra grounding and a deeper connection to the Earth. Standing balances are good for the root chakra.

P.S. Go climb a mountain!

Not only is it great for the root chakra, it also blows off the cobwebs and helps us to see things from a fresh new perspective!

Yoga poses: Easy seat, mountain, tree, warriors 1, 2 and 3, humble warrior, hero, child and sleeping pose. Can you think of any other poses that help you to feel grounded and safe?
